Information on Adrenal Exhaustion and PPD

I received this message asking to get this to all the cosponsors. I am asking everyone who is helping out - that if you are doing any faxes, emails, or phone calls, you consider using this information with the HELP Committee as well. Apparently Senator Coburn already has concerns so please make sure you get this information to him if you are calling / faxing / emailing. (Please see page 2 of the flyer, "The Truth About The MOTHERS Act," which is great to fax to the SENATE as well.)

The DRUGS that doctors are using on moms will only make things worse in part because they further complicate the endocrine problems, raising cortisol, adversely affecting the thyroid gland, pineal gland, etc. It's adding insult to injury. There are good ways to address PPD with prevention and safe and effective treatments. We do not need INEFFECTIVE and DANGEROUS drugs.

Postpartum thyroiditis is probably behind a lot of cases of so-called PPD (it can't be called PPD if it's an actual physical medical disorder - underlying medical disorders preclude diagnosis with a psychiatric label). According to what I have read and what Dr. Block said on the 2006 story for ABC local news (see:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNnz7GFGJSA) postpartum thyroiditis happens to at least 10% of women after childbirth.

Thanks,
Amy

Amy- We need to get this info of Derek's (see below) to all cosponsors of this terrible bill in an effort to get them to remove their names as sponsors. They're sponsoring this terrible legislation out of total ignorance.

Hi John. In one of my Applied Kinesiology manuals on Endocrinology and AK, it is stated that the reason for post partum depression is that the mother has weak or exhausted adrenal glands prior to becoming pregnant. Then, when she gets pregnant, once the baby's adrenals start developing, her body will benefit from the cortisol being produced by the baby's adrenal glands. This makes her feel great while she is still pregnant. But the problem is that when the baby is born, if the mother's adrenals haven't recovered yet, she will suffer from severe symptoms of cortisol withdrawal - and THIS is what causes post partum depression. It is not a MENTAL symptom - it is a physiological symptom.

If ANY medical intervention is needed, I would recommend the doctor screen the mother's cortisol levels prior to giving birth and then in the next few days after. If her cortisol levels drop, then she should be put on either a whole dessicated adrenal supplement or Cortef, which is prescription cortisol, in low, physiological doses. She should remain on this until her adrenals have recovered sufficiently from the exhaustion to start producing adequate cortisol on their own. Then she should slowly taper off. There is a book called SAFE USES OF CORTISOL, by a Dr. McJeffries. That is the manual on how to treat adrenal / cortisol issues.

I am somewhat of an expert in this area as I survived Addison's Disease and made a complete recovery. I almost died from this in 2003. I had Addison's due to damage from Epstein Barr Virus. I have since corrected the damage and now have very good adrenals. What they are proposing here is criminal and is due to a very stupid lack of knowledge of the physiological processes of the body. I find it hard to believe that any doctor would have any part of this, except that the medical business is one of the most corrupt in this country.
